AI Mode
AI Mode is a separate Google tab the user deliberately opens. It is conversational, supports follow-ups, removes the classic ten blue links entirely, and runs query fan-out before answering.
AI Mode reached roughly 1 billion monthly users within twelve months, with queries about three times longer than classic search.
Its citation logic diverges enough from AI Overviews that a brand can win one and lose the other on the same query.
