Query fan-out

Query fan-out is the technique of breaking a single user question into multiple sub-queries — as many as sixteen in Google AI Mode — running them in parallel, and synthesising one answer from the combined results.

Fan-out is why AI answers cite sources that never rank for the literal query, and why head-term optimisation alone underperforms on conversational surfaces.
