GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation)

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) is the practice of improving how often and how favourably a brand appears in the output of generative search engines. In practice it is used interchangeably with AEO.

The two terms emerged from different communities — GEO from academic work on generative engines, AEO from the SEO industry — and now describe the same set of tactics.

Where they differ slightly in emphasis: GEO discussions tend to focus on content structure and source authority, AEO discussions on measurement and reporting.
